Skiing & Snowboarding
With
over 200kms of pistes and 2 snow parks there is plenty to explore and you will
struggle to do it all in one week. The region is spilt into 3 main ski
areas:
Kleine Schidegg and Mannlichen which is the most
extensive area and can be reached by train or gondala from the bottom of town.
Take the train up further from Kleine Schidegg to the Eiger glacier and try
some of the high altitude powder or choose from the many groomed runs back down
to Grindelwald. There is also the legendary Lauberhorn world cup run for the
more adventurous.
First (meaning peak) which is accessed by
gondola from the town centre taking you up to 2500m where there is a vast area
of intermediate runs and a large snow park.
The third area is the
Shilthorn which is situated above the town of Murren, and is accessed by
train and then gondala.
The trip is well worth the while for the
spectacular skiing and scenery. It offers more runs for advanced skiers
including the renowned 16km black run back down to Murren.
Lunch can be
enjoyed in the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant which was the set for the
James Bond film On Her Majesties Secret Service.
There is also
spectacular off-piste skiing and Heli-skiing to be explored
